The smell goes away in about 2 weeks or so. It will also have a smoky smell to it once you open it. Note due to the nature of fire, the outer burned ring will vary slightly from map to map. Then both sheets are laminated together onto a corrugated ECT-44C sheet so you can see the outer burnt charred fluting on the edges of the map.
